As a child you must have been told to greet your elders and visitors to your home according to your culture and tradition.( শিশু হিসেবে তোমাকে তোমাদের সংস্কৃতি ও ঐতিহ্য অনুসারে অবশ্যই বড়োদের ও তোমাদের বাড়িতে আগত অতিথিদের অভিবাদন জানাতে বলা হয়েছে। )You must also have been taught to be polite in company and keep quiet while others, especially your elders, spoke.( তোমাকে অবশ্যই আরো শেখানো হয়েছে লোকজনের সামনে নম্র থাকতে এবং যখন অন্যরা বিশেষকরে বড়োরা কথা বলে তখন চুপ থাকতে। ) Possibly, you at times grudged such schooling.( খুব সম্ভবত, তুমি মাঝেমাঝে এ ধরনের শিক্ষায় অসন্তুষ্ট হয়েছ।) Possibly, at times you even protested such disciplining.( সম্ভবত, কখনো কখনো তুমি এ ধরনের নিয়মানুবর্তিতার এমনকী প্রতিবাদও করেছ। ) Now, certainly you know that you can't always behave the way you want specially in the presence of others.( এখন তুমি নিশ্চয়ই জান যে বিশেষকরে অন্যদের উপস্থিতিতে তুমি যেভাবে চাও সেভাবে তুমি সব সময় আচরণ করতে পার না। ) There are rules of behavior you have to follow in a company. (লোকজনের সামনে আচরণের নিয়ম আছে যেগুলো তোমাকে অনুসরণ করতে হবে। ) We are social beings and have to consider the effect of our behaviour on others, even if we are at home and dealing with our family members. (আমরা সামাজিক জীব এবং অন্যদের উপর আমাদের আচরণের প্রভাবকে বিবেচনা করতেই হবে, এমনকী তখনো যখন আমরা বাড়িতে থাকি এবং আমাদের পরিবারের সদস্যদের সাথে আচরণ করি। ) We have two terms to describe our social behaviour -'etiquette' and 'manners.('আমাদের সামাজিক আচরণ বর্ণনার ক্ষেত্রে আমাদের দুটি কথা রয়েছে শিষ্টাচার ও নৈতিক আচরণ। ) 'Etiquette' is a French word and it means the rules of correct behaviour in society. (Etiquette একটি ফরাসি শব্দ এবং এর দ্বারা সমাজে সঠিক আচরণের নিয়ম বুঝায়।) The word 'manners' means the behaviour that is considered to be polite in a particular society or culture.( ব্যবহার বলতে বুঝায় আচরণ যা একটি নির্দিষ্ট সমাজ বা সংস্কৃতিতে নম্র হওয়া বিবেচিত হয়।) Manners can be good or bad.( আচরণ ভালো অথবা খারাপ হতে পারে।)  For example it is a bad manner to speak with food in one's mouth. (উদারহণস্বরূপ: মুখে খাবার নিয়ে কথা বলা একটি খারাপ আচরণ ।) No one likes a bad mannered person. (কেউ খারাপ আচরণের মানুষ পছন্দ করে না।) Remember that etiquette and manners vary from culture to culture and from society to society. (মনে রেখো, আদবকায়দা ও আচরণ, এক সংস্কৃতি থেকে অন্য সংস্কৃতিতে এবং এক সমাজ থেকে অন্য সমাজে পরিবর্তন হয়।) We learn etiquette and manners from our parents, families and various institutions, such as schools, colleges or professional bodies.( ' আমরা শিষ্টাচার ও আচরণ শিখি আমাদের পিতামাতা, পরিবার ও বিভিন্ন প্রতিষ্ঠান, যেমন বিদ্যালয়, কলেজ বা পেশাদারী প্রতিষ্ঠান থেকে।) There are rules of behaviour for all kinds of social occasions and it is important to learn them and practise them in everyday life.( সব ধরনের সামাজিক উপলক্ষ্যের জন্য আচরণের নিয়মনীতি রয়েছে এবং এগুলো শিক্ষা নেওয়া এবং দৈনন্দিন জীবনে সেসব চর্চা করা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ। )The manners that are correct in a wedding reception will not do in a debating club.( একটি বিয়ের সংবর্ধনায় যেসব আচরণ সঠিক একটি বিতর্ক ক্লাবে সেগুলো সঠিক নয়।)Therefore, we have to be careful about etiquette and manners. (তাই, আমাদের আদবকায়দা ও অভ্যাস সম্পর্কে সচেতন হতেই হবে।) We know how important it is to say 'please' and 'thank you' in everyday life. (আমরা জানি, দৈনন্দিন জীবনে ‘অনুগ্রহ করুন’ ও ‘আপনাকে ধন্যবাদ' বলা কতটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ।) A few more polite expressions such as 'pardon me,' 'excuse me,' 'may I,' are bound to make your day smooth and pleasant. (আরো কিছু স্র অভিব্যক্তি যেমন- ‘আমাকে মার্জনা করুন’, ‘আমাকে ক্ষমা করুন, আমি কি পারি, তোমার দিনকে স্বচ্ছন্দ ও আনন্দদায়ক করবে।)
