Asif is a
rickshaw puller. He is very poor. Everyday he has to work hard to maintain his
family. One day while he was pulling rickshaw a gentle man got on his rickshaw.
The man reached the destination and paid him the fare. But at time of putting
the purse back to this pocket it dropped inside the rickshaw.
The man
went away. All on a sudden the rickshaw puller saw the purse inside his rickshaw.
He understood that it was dropped by a passenger. He was an honest man. He
looked here and there but did not find the owner of the purse nearby. He went
back home and showed it to his wife. There was a lot of money in the purse. She
advised her husband to use it for themselves. But the honest rickshaw puller
said, “Honesty is the best police.” I will try to find out the owner of the
purse. In the purse he saw the address and telephone number of the owner of the
purse. The rickshaw puller went to a phone shop and telephoned to the man and
told him of his missing purse. The next day the man went to asif`s home in a
slum area. The rickshaw puller came out of his home and gave the purse to its
owner. The owner of the purse was a rich man. He became astonished at the
honesty of the rickshaw puller. He thanked him and wanted to give the rickshaw
puller some money. But Asif refused to take it. He said, “you have got back
your money and I am glad at this.”
2. Title: the
ready wit of a little boy.
One sunny
morning a boy of eleven years was tending cattle by the side of a railway line.
Suddenly he noticed that a small railway slipper was about to collapse. A
little while latter, he remembered that a mail train was supposed to cross in
about half an hour.
He thought
that an accident might occur. He grew anxious for the lives of many passengers.
He began to think how he could save the train from the accident.
The boy
knew that a train stops when any one waves red flag. He had a red napkin with
him. The boy made up his mind to use his napkin as a flag.
At once he
heard the whistle of the train. The train was coming at a full speed. The boy
stood beside the railway line and began
to wave his napkin like a flag. The driver saw it band stopped the train. He
came to the boy and asked why he was waving his napkin. The boy showed him the break of the slipper.
The driver
was very much pleased with the boy. He thanked the boy and said, “you`ve saved
the lives of thousands of people. You`re a very intelligent boy. You deserve
reward.”
3. THE IDLE
SUFFER IN LIFE
Jamal is
an S.S.C examinee. He is not attentive to his lessons specially to English
because he is very weak in English.
Moreover he is lazy. So his preparation in English is not good. A month ago
before his examination he managed a short suggestion of probable questions on
English. On the day of examination of English he started for the examination
hall a bit earlier. He entered the examination hall with a trembling heart. As
usual the bell rang at just time. The invigilators gave the scripts and the
question paper to the students. jamal took the script and the question paper.
He was disappointed to see the questions because no question was common to him.
He could not answer any questions .He
began to look at other examinees. He also disturbed them. They felt annoyed at
his behavior. The invigilators also got annoyed with him . At one stage they
took his script and turned him out of the examination hall he realized the
result of his laziness.
4. A STRUGGLINE WOMAN
Marim is
the daughter of a very poor parents. At the age of fifteen, her parents gave
her in marriage with a very poor boy. He is very lazy. He does not do any work.
So Marium works hard to support her family. But she is always anxious what will
happen if she gives birth to a female child. Finally she gave birth a female
child. Her husband became very unhappy. She could not tolerate the rude
behavior of her husband. At one stage she left her husband`s home. She came to
Dhaka city in search of a living. Her daughter began to grow up. She did not
lose heart. She came to know that the government had made education free for
girls up to H.S.C . So she sent her daughter to school. Her daughter was found
to be a brilliant student. She had been doing well in her examinations. She
made good results both in the S.S.C and H.S.C. she become a primary teacher.
Marium began to see better days in her life.
5. RESULTS OF FOOLISHNESS
Rahima
works in a big garment factory. There are more than five hundred workers in the
factory. One day as usual she was busy at her work. Suddenly a sound came to
her ear that there was a break out of fire from the short circuit. As ill news
runs fast, the news spread very fast among the workers. But no one noticed
whether there was actually any fire. The workers began to run very fast. They
began to move to and fro. They were at a loss. They left their job. There was a
single gate. All were trying to come out at a time. So there was a heavy rush
at the gate. There was much jostling. Many fell down and could not get up. As a
result many died on the spot. However latter on it was discovered that there
was no fire. At last the workers realized the result of their foolishness.
6. RESULT OF GREED
Once upon
a time there was a king called Midas. He was extremely fond of gold. Although
he had a lot of it, he wanted more. He though if he had the golden touch, he
would be the happiest man. A wise god granted his wise promptly. Half an hour
later, as the king was sitting under an apple tree in this garden, suddenly a
ripe apple fell beside him. He picked it up. As he touched, everything turned
into gold , as he entered his house , his little daughter ran up to him and he took
her in his arms. Instantly she turned into gold –the king was struck with
horror. The king cried out in anguish. Immediately the wise god took the golden
touch away and the girl become human again.
7. RESCUE OF A DROWNING BOY
Last
Saturday was a memorable day in my life. I went to the river for taking my bath
at 9 am as usual. The bathing place was not crowded then. Only two boys were
bathing in the river at that time. Suddenly one of them fell in deep water and
he cried out for help. The other boy was quite puzzled and stood helplessly.
Instantly I made up my mind and dived into water. I had learnt the technique of
rescuing a drowning man in our social service class. So I took the drowning boy
by hair and brought him safely to the shore . in the meantime, some people came
there and when for teaching me how to rescue a drowning man. When my father
heard this, he felt very proud of me.
8. CONSEQUENCE OF CUTTING
DOWN TREES
Once there
lived a king in an island. There were green trees everywhere in the island.
Once the king decided to build a
magnificent palace in the island. So he ordered his men to cut down all the
trees. Some opposed the king`s idea but he did not pay heed to their
opposition. So people were compelled to carry out the king`s order. They cut
down all the trees. As a result a great change took place in the climate of the
island. The island turned into a desert. There was no rain. As a result crop
did not grow well. Famine visited the land. People had to starve for days
together. It was unbearable for them. One day they came to the king`s palace
and lay seize around the palace. They wanted food but the king could not give
them any food. At one time they became very furious. They dragged the king from
his chair and on the spur of the moment killed him.
9. A HOUSE ON
FIRE
Last
Sunday I went to bad at 9 pm and slept a sound sleep. Suddenly I woke up at
about I am. When I heard a hue and cry at a little distance, I got up from bed
and ran to the spot. I saw that a cottage was burning. People were rushing
towards it. The old woman and the poor little girl who lived in it could not
come out. They were crying for help inside the cottage. Everybody was throwing
water on the burning cottage but nobody dared to enter the room. At last I
requested a brave young man to rescue the old woman and the poor little girl.
My eyes were full of tears then. He looked at my face once again and suddenly
rushed into the cottage. He came out with the little girl by his arm and the
old lady on his back. I thanked god and felt very happy for the noble deed the
young man did. It will be a treasure in my memory for a long time.
10. THE SULTAN AND THE QUAZI
Giashuddin Azam
Shah was the ruler of Bengal. He was a kind and just ruler. He was very
much fond of archery. One day when he was practicing archery, all on a sudden
his arrow missed its target and pierced into the breast of a young boy who died
instantly. The boy was the son of a widow. She went to the Quazi and complained
against the Sultan for justice.
The Quazi called for the Sultan and asked him to
compensate for the loss. Otherwise he would be punished. The Sultan satisfied
the widow by giving her compensation. Then the Quazi got down from his seat and
showed the Sultan due honour. He said to the Sultan, “ If you had disobeyed my
order I would have beaten you with my cane” The Sultan also thanked the Quazi
for his brave and true judgement. He embraced the Quazi.
11. THE
TRUTHFULNESS OF ABDUL QUADER JILANY
Hazrat Abdul Quader Jilany was a pious boy from
his childhood. Once he was going to Bagdad to receive education. He was going
there with a few merchants. At the time of his departure his mother told him
not to tell a lie. On his way to Bagdad a band of robbers fell upon them. The
robbers robbed all the belongings and money of the merchants. When they were
leaving, the chief of the robbers asked Abdul Quader whether he had anything
valuable with him or not. The boy Quader replied that he had twenty gold coins
with him given by his mother. The robbers became surprised at his reply. They
asked him to show the gold coins. Quader then opened a cloth and showed the
robbers the gold coins. The leader asked him why had them the truth. Abdul
Quader replied that his mother told not to tell a lie. He told them that to
tell a lie is a great sin and that everyone should always speak the truth. The
robbers were highly surprised by the honesty of the boy. They left their
profession and became good men.
12. SHEIKH
SAADI AND A NOBLE MAN
Sheikh Saadi was a great poet in Iran.
He used to lead a very simple life. Once he was invited by the king of Iran to
the Royal Court. On the way, it was night. He took shelter in the house of a
rich man. He had a very simple dress on. He used to lead a very simple life.
The owner of the house took him for an ordinary man. They did not take care of
him at all. They gave him very simple food. Saadi felt very sad. But he did not
tell anything to anybody. However the next day he started for the court.
He reached the court and stayed there
for some days. On his ways back home, he again took shelter in the same house.
This time he was dressed in gorgeous clothes. The nobleman took him for an
elite person. He welcomed him very cordially. He showed him much respect. Now
the servants came with rich food for him. Saadi understood everything.
So, Saadi decided to teach him a good
lesson. When he sat down to eat, a strange thing happened. Instead of eating
the delicious food, he began to put them into his pockets .The noble man as
well as his servants was surprised at this. The noble man asked politely ʺ what
are you doing sir?ʺ.Saadi replied,ʺ I am doing the right thing.ʺ Some days ago
I came here to your house in plain dress, nobody took care of me.” Now I am in
gorgeous dress and you are showing me much respect. So, this food deserves my
dress. Hearing this, the noble man understood his fault. He was very much ashamed
and begged saadi`s pardon.
From the
above story we can say that dress does not make a man perfect.
13. BAYAZID
AND HIS MOTHER
Bayazid was a small boy. His mother was
ill. One night he was studying by the side of the bed of his ailing mother. All
on a sudden his mother woke up, raised her head and asked her son to give her a
glass of water. Bayazid went to the kitchen to bring water. But there was no
water in the pitcher/ jar. He searched for water here and there, in vain. Then
he remembered(wi‡ggeviW)
that there was a well/fountain at the end of the village. He decided to bring
water from the well. So he took the pitcher. He started walking quickly. The
well was quite far from their house. He reached there safely. However he filled
the pitcher/jar and came back. He poured(‡cviW) water into the glass and came to his
mother. He found that his mother was fast asleep again. He did not walk her up.
He stood by her bed with the glass of water in his hand. He did not want to
disturb his ailing mother. He remained(wi‡gBbW) standing beside his mother`s bed. The
mother woke up in the morning. She found her son standing beside her bed. “
Please take the glass and drink it” told Bayazid politely. His mother drank
water. She embraced(Bg‡e‡imW)
her son with deep love and prayed to Allah for her son. Allah granted(M¨viv‡bvUW)
her prayer and made Bayazid one of His greatest devotees.
From the
above story we can say that A golden key opens any door.
Moral: A

14. AN OLD
MAN HAD FOUR SONS
Once
there was an old farmer in a certain village. He had four sons. They were very
fond of quarrelling and used to quarrel(‡Kvhv‡ii) among themselves all the time. So,
there was no peace in the house and this made the old man extremely(GKm‡Uªgwj)
anxious. Then the old farmer heard them. In order to teach them the value of
unity he called his sons beside him and told them to bring some sticks and tie
them in a bundle. He told them to break the bundle. They tried but could not
break(‡eªK)
the bundle of sticks. They tried again and again but in vain.
Then the
farmer told them to untie the bundle and break the sticks one by one. This time
they could break the sticks easily. The farmer then advised(A¨vWfvBRW)
them by saying. If you are united, nobody will be able to harm you. You could
not break the sticks in a bundle. But you could easily break the sticks(BmwUK) when
they were separated(‡mcv‡i‡UW).
So live in peace. The sons promised(cÖwgmW) to follow their father’s advice.
From the above story we can say that
unity is strength.

15. TWO FRIENDS
There were two friends. They lived in a
certain(mv‡U©b)
village. They promised that they would help each other at the time of danger.
One day they were passing through (‡_ªv)a deep forest. Suddenly(mv‡Wbwj) a bear
came in front of them. So both of them were afraid and thought(_U) what to
do.
One of the friends knew how to climb up
a tree. So he forgot(diMU)
his promise(‡cÖvwgm).
He climbed up a nearby tree. He did not think what would happen(n¨v‡cb) to his
friend. The other friend did not know how to climb up a tree. He did not find a
way out what to do. However an idea came to his mind. He heard that a bear does
not touch a dead body. So finding no way he lay down on the ground. He stopped(GmUcW)
breathing(‡eªw`s)
and pretended(wcwi‡UÛ)
like a dead man. The bear came to him and smelt his mouth, ears and nose. He
took the man for a dead man and left the place without doing him any harm. When
the bear had gone away, the first friend got down from the tree and asked his
friend, “What did the bear whisper into your ears?” The other friend replied,
“The bear gave me a good advice. It told me, “Never trust a friend who leaves
his friend in danger.”
From the above story we can say that a
friend in need is a friend indeed.
Moral: A

16. AN HONEST WOOD CUTTER
There
lived a wood cutter in a village. One day he was cutting wood near a river.
Suddenly his axe fell into the river. The river was very deep. The wood cutter
did not know how to swim or dive. So, he was sitting there sadly. Then a
wonderful thing happened. A beautiful fairy appeared before the wood cutter.
She was the goddess of water. She asked him, “Why are you weeping?” The wood
cutter said, “My axe has fallen into the river. Now my family will starve if I
can not cut wood. So I am weeping”.
The water
goddess took pity on him. She dived into water and came back with a silver axe.
She asked, “Is your axe?” The wood cutter saw the axe and said, “ It is not
mine.” The water goddess dived again and came back with another axe made of
gold. She asked, “Is this axe that you have lost?” The wood cutter said, “No,
it is also not mine.” The water goddess again dived into water and brought up
an iron axe. He showed it to the wood cutter and asked, “Is this yours?” The
wood cutter became very pleased to see his axe. He said, “Yes, this axe is
mine. Please give it to me.”
The water goddess became very pleased
with the honesty of the wood cutter. She gave him all the three axes. Then the
wood cutter became rich and began to live happily.
From the
above story we can say that honesty is the best policy.

17. A
WONDERFUL GOOSE
Once
there lived a poor man in a certain village. He had a peculiar(wcwKDivi) goose(¸R) which
laid a golden egg everyday. The poor man earned his livelihood(wjfwjûW) by
selling the golden eggs. The poor man began to become richer day by day. But he
was very greedy. He wanted to become rich overnight. He thought that the goose
laid only one egg a day. So it would take time for him to be rich. He said to
himself “ the stomach of the goose is full of golden eggs.” If I cut the belly(‡ewj) of the
goose, I shall get all the golden eggs at a time.” He told his plan to his
wife. His wife was a wise woman. She advised him not to do such a foolish act.
But the greedy man paid no heed to her words/The farmer did not listen to his
wife. Finally he cut its stomach(Gm‡UvgvK) with a sharp knife. He searched(QvimW) minutely
for eggs. But Alas! There was no egg in it. The farmer was sorry. His wife
scolded(BmKzj‡WW)
him. She said, “You are foolish but greedy. So you have lost all.”
From the above story we can say that
Grasp all, lose all.
Moral: Grasp all, lose all.
18. NOBODY
BELIEVES A LIAR
There was a cowboy in a village. He
used to tend cows in a nearby field beside the forest. The cowboy was a great
liar. He enjoyed himself making fun with people. He would often cry out, wolf,
wolf! Help me! Help me! At first the
people believed him. When they heard him shouting, they would come with sticks to
help him. But they found no wolf. When the farmers could find no wolf, the boy
laughed and made fun with them.
The boy befooled them on several
occasions. One day a wolf really came. The boy now shouted at the top of his
voice, wolf! Wolf! Help! Help! But this time there was no response. The farmers
were working in a nearby field. They thought that he was making fun as usual
with them. So they did not come to help him. The time the wolf found the cowboy
alone and killed him. The liar cowboy was thus punished for this falsehood.
From the above story we can say that manners make the man.
Moral: Manners make the man.
19.
THE BARBARISM OF A HOUSE MISTRESS
A poor girl, named Rina worked in a rich man s
house. The house master was kind to her but the mistress was very cruel. She
used to scold her now and then. One day while serving tea, Rina broke a cup of
tea.
The mistress of the house became very
angry with Rina. She began to scold her. When Rina bandied with the mistress,
She became more furious. She began to beat her black and blue. At one point,
She began to beat her with a hot cooking spoon. Rina became senseless. Rina was
not given any food. She was kept in a bathroom. Some people heard her shouting.
They informed the police. The police rescued her and sent her to the hospital.
She struggled hard against death in the hospital. But she could not survive.
She passed away from this world on the day. Later on, the police arrested the
mistress of the house.

THE CLEVERNESS OF A CROW
It was a summer(mvgvi)day and a
crow became very thirsty. It went here and there in search of drinking water
but in vain. The crow did not lose hope to get water. He found a jar at a
little distance. He flew to jar but he found that the jar had only a little
water at the bottom. He could not drink water because it was out of his reach.
The crow tried to get at the water with
his beak but he failed. It was too heavy for him. He became very sad. Then he
decided(wWmvB‡WU)
to fly away in despair. As he was leaving the place, he saw a heap of pebbles
nearby. A new idea came to his mind. The crow carried the pebbles(‡cejm) one
after another to the jar. Then he dropped(WªcW) the pebbles into the jar. As a result, the water in the jar rose up
gradually(MÖvRy‡qwj)
and at last the crow was able to drink. Thus the crow tried again and again and
at last succeeded. The crow drank it to his satisfaction(‡mwUm‡dKmb)
and flew away happily. From the above story we can say that where there is a
will, there is a way.
Moral:
Where there is a will, there is a way.

THE LION AND THE MOUSE
Once a lion was sleeping in a cave. A
mouse was playing nearby. Suddenly the mouse jumped on the lion’s nose. For
this it broke through the lion’s sleep. The lion became very angry.
He caught hold of the mouse and said,
“How dare! You have broken my sleep I will kill you” The mouse began to tremble
in fear. The mouse begged for its life. He said, “My Lord, I am a small
creature. Save my life for this time. One day I may help you.” “The lion
laughed and said, “You will help me! Out of pity the lion set the mouse go.
Some days after the lion was caught in a hunter net’s. The lion tried hard but
could not get out of the net. He began to roar. The mouse heard the roaring of
the lion. He came to the lion and said “Let down in the trap. I will cut the
net into pieces.” At once it came to the net and cut the net into pieces with
its teeth and set the lion free. The lion said, “Dear little friend, you have
saved my life. Now I understood that even a little creature should not be
neglected. It might come to help to a mighty animal.
From the above story we can say that
help may come even from the smallest of your friends.
Moral: Help may come even from the
smallest of your friends.
(22) A HARE
AND A TORTOISE
Once
there were a hare and a tortoise in a certain place. A hare is a speedy animal.
So it felt proud. It always blamed the tortoise for its slowness. One day the
hare invited the tortoise to run a race. The tortoise accepted the invitation.
All the
animals of the jungle came to see the race. The race started. The hare ran very
fast and was far ahead of the tortoise. He looked back and saw the tortoise
lagging far behind. He thought, “ The tortoise is too slow. He will take a long
time to reach here. Let me have some rest.” So, he lay down in the shade of a
tree. He fell asleep But tortoise ran on and on. He never looked back. He began
to run slowly but steadily. Soon he was about to reach the destination. All on
a sudden the hare woke up and saw that the tortoise was about to reach the
destination. The hare began to run as fast as he could. But he could not overtake the tortoise. The
tortoise had already reached the destination.
From the
above story we can say that slow and steady wins the race.

Slow and steady wins the race.

CATS AND THE MONKEY
One day two cats stole a piece of
bread. They failed to divide it in equal parts as both of them wanted the
larger part. They fought for that. Lastly, they agreed to put up their problem
to the monkey. All the animals of the forest knew him as the wiser animal. They
went to the monkey and asked him to divide the bread into two equal parts. The
monkey was very clever. He brought a weighing balance. Then he tore the bread
into two pieces. He put the piece of bread on the two scales. But one piece was
heavier than the other. Then the monkey took a bite from the bigger one to
reduce its weight. He intentionally took a bigger bite. As a result the piece
which was lighten before, became heavier now. In this way the monkey went on
eating taking bites from this one and from the other. At last there remained
only one small piece of bread. The cats realized their folly. They said, “hold
on, please, divide these piece equally and we shall be glad” The monkey said, “That
can not be. I must have my share as a judge.” Then the monkey put the piece of
bread into his mouth and went away joyfully.
From the above story we can say that
something is better than nothing.
Moral: Something is better than
nothing.
(24) FAILURE
IS THE PILLAR OF SUCCESS
Robert Bruce was the king of Scotland.
His army was defeated again and again against king Edward 1 of England. Being
defeated for six times, he lost all hope. Naturally he was very sad. He with
his many faithful soldiers and subjects went to a forest and took shelter in a
cave. The king did not sit idle there. He formed a troop and attacked his
enemies again. He attacked his enemies about six times. But all the times, he
was defeated. Being defeated so many times, he became disappointed. One day,
the king was lying in the cave in a gloomy mood. Suddenly, he saw a spider. It
was trying to climb the top of the ceiling. But it fell down. Yet it did not
give up its attempt and on the seven attempt it succeeded. The king was
inspired from the deed of the spider. He made up his mind again and he attacked
his enemies once again. This time he defeated his enemies and got back his lost
kingdom.
(25) WHO IS
TO BELL THE CAT
Once the house of a rich man was
infested with rats. The house became like the town Hamelin. There were rats
everywhere. They were having a good time. But the members could not enjoy sound
sleep. Even the little babies were not free from the attack and biting of the
rats. The rats would take away foods, cut cloths and tear holes here and there.
All the members were in great trouble. At last the owner of the house hit upon
a plan. He knew that rats would run away at the sight of cats. So he bought a
cat to kill the rats and therefore to get rid of the rats. The rats came to know
the presence of the cat in the house. Their lives were at stake. All the mice
sat together in a conference. At last they took a decision that they would tie
a bell in the neck of the cat so that they could know the approach of the cat.
They raised a hue and cry over the matter because none of the rats agreed to
tie a bell in the neck of the cat. They thought that the rat who would go to
bell the approach of the cat would lose his life. Finally who would bell the
cat remained unsettled. So the mice eventually migrated.

THE DOVE AND THE ANT
Once an ant was very thirsty. He went
to a pond to drink water. When he began to drink water, a wave swept him away.
He was about to be drowned. On the bank of the pond a dove was sitting on the
branch of a tree from where he saw the miserable condition of the ant. The ant
tried hard to save his life but failed to get ashore. Then the dove picked a
leaf by his beak and dropped it in front of him in the water. The ant somehow
swam to it and caught hold of it and saved her life. The ant became too much
grateful to the dove. A few days later, the ant saw a person aiming his gun at
the dove. At that time the ant went to the man and crawled on the man s leg and
bit the man. Then the man cried out in pain and failed to shoot the dove and
thus missed his target. At that moment, the dove got the chance to fly away.
Thus, the ant saved the dove s life.

GRASP ALL LOSE ALL
One day a fox was very hungry. He was moving
here and there in search of food. After sometime he came to a vineyard and saw
ripe grapes, hanging up. He wanted to satisfy his hunger with the sweet grapes.
He jumped at the grapes but could not reach them. He jumped and jumped to reach
the grapes. But he could not reach them. The grapes were too high for him to
reach. The fox became tired. At last he found that it was useless to try any
more. He was very unhappy. Then he went away and consoled himself by saying
that the grapes were sour and so he did not want them.
28.THE
PIED PIPER OF HAMELIN
A long time ago, the town of
Hamelin(‡nwgwjb-GKwU kni) in Germany(Rvgv©wb) was faced with a
great problem. It became full of(cwic~Y©) rats. The rats were
so big and fierce that they fought(dU-hy× KiZ) the dogs, killed(wKjW-nZ¨v Kiv) the cats and bit the babies in the cradles(µv‡Wjm-‡`vjbv). They ate up different(wWdvi›U-wfbœ) types of foods
and cut the papers and valuable(‡fjyGej-g~j¨evb) documents(WKz‡g›Um)
into pieces. People had to face a big crisis. One day the city mayor and the
administrative(A¨vWwg‡bmwUªwUf-cÖkvmwbK) officers called a meeting to solve the problem. They
offered(AdviW- cÖ`vb K‡iwQj) a prize for the person who would save them from
disturbing(wWmUviwes) rats. At that time, a pied piper agreed to take the

to pay him fully. Saying nothing the piper went away. Now he played another
tune on his pipe. The tune made all the nice babies of the city follow the
piper and they never came back.
(29)A GARMENT WORKER
There
was a village girl. Once upon a time in search
of job in garments factory she came to Dhaka. Her father was a poor rickshaw puller and her mother was a house worker. She had a younger
brother and a younger sister. They lived together in a slum near Saver in Dhaka. However the girl somehow
managed a job in a garments factory Savar, Dhaka.
She led a very hard life.
Everyday morning she went to the
factory and came back her residence after the evening on foot with her colleagues. She supported her
family with her poor income nicely. She was the hope of her
family. But it is a matter of sorrow that a serious(wmwiqvm-gvivZ¡K) accident destroyed the hope of the family. One
day the garments factory in which she work broke down and caused a heavy toll of life. She was one
of the dead bodies. We feel pity for her. .
(30)The Foolish Crow
and the Clever Fox
One day a crow stole
a piece of meat. It flew away and sat on the branch of a tree. Suddenly a fox
was going under that tree. He saw the piece of meat in the beak of the crow and
wanted to have the piece of meat. He hit upon a plan to accomplish his evil
design. He wanted to flatter the crow. He began to say that the crow was very
beautiful to look at. Its feathers were extremely glamorous and its beak was
very nice. Further, the clever fox added that the beauty of the crow could not
be described in words.
The sweet words of
the fox pleased the crow very much and it became overwhelmed with joy. But
again the fox said that the crow was unfortunately(AvbdiPz‡bUwj-`yifv‡M¨µ‡g) dumb. At this, the crow became a bit angry and in order to
drive the futility of his words, the crow opened its mouth to caw. Then and
there the piece of meat fell down from its mouth and the clever fox grabbed it
and went away with that piece of meat.
(31)A Clever crow and a Foolish Dog
Once a dog found a piece of bone. He was eating it sitting under a tree. There sat a crow on the tree. It wished to take away the bone from the dog. Sitting on the branch of a tree the crow was watching the dog trying to pierce the meat from the bone. He had a desire to have it from the dog by adopting a trick. Then he came near the dog and tried to make friendship with him. But the dog got furious when he saw the crow near him. The crow tried to cajole him with sweet words. He told him that he should bring some salt from the nearby house to make the bone tasty. The dog could not believe him as the crow was not very trustworthy. Since the crow persisted in finally the dog agreed to do this. Besides, he also wanted to make his food more tasty. As soon as the dog moved few yards from the crow, he took the bone in his beak and flew away. To his utter surprise the dog saw the crow flying far away with his favourite bone. So, Don’t befool yourself by the sweet words of the wicked.
32. The Wise Judge and the Servants of A House Master
Once a house master’s a very precious piece of ornament was lost from his house. He searched for it here and there but failed. Then he asked the help from a judge. The judge was very wise. He called all the servants of the master’s house. All of the servants denied the charge. Then the judge told the house master’s to give him some sticks. The master hurriedly collected some sticks and gave them to the judge. The judge then gave each of them a stick of the same length and told them to submit(mvewgU-Rgv †`Iqv) the sticks the following day. He told them that the stick of the real thief would increase by an inch. Returning home, all the servants kept their sticks as they were innocent. But the thief shortened his stick by an inch. The next day when all submitted their sticks before the judge the real thief was easily detected(wW‡UK‡UW-evQvB K‡iwQj). Then the thief was given his due punishment(cvwbm‡g›U-kvw¯Í).

One natural and the other was artificial. But the garlands(Mvij¨vÛm-gvjv¸‡jv) looked quite alike. The king realized(wiqvjvBRW-eyS‡Z cviv) that the queen might test his wit. Then he heard some -bees humming () outside the room He then opened the-windows(DBb‡WvR-Rvbvjv) of the room. The bees came to the room through the windows and sat on the garland (gvjv) of real flowers. The Queen of Sheba was charmed(PvigW-gy» nIqv) by his wisdom.
