(z6) Which demand did the workers struggle for?
(z7) What activities did the workers do against the authorities?
                                                                        Answer:

(a) May Day is observed all over the world in order to pay tribute to the historical struggle and sacrifies of the working class people to establish an eight-hour workday.
(b) The workers were deprived of their basic rights. Right from the Industrial Revolution, the workers had to work for a long shift, fourteen or even more hours a day that led to the struggle.
(c) The events of May Day remind us that the workers will continue to be exploited until they stand up and speak out for their rights of better working conditions, better pay and better lives.
(d) Yes, I support the idea, because the events of May Day have shown the workers of the world how due rights of better working conditions, better pay and better lives are gained. The workers will have to stand up and speak out for their rights. Otherwise, they will be ever exploited.
(e) The workers wanted an eight-hour workday by struggling against the authority. They wanted better working conditions, better pay and better lives for which they had been struggling.
(f) May Day commemorates the historical struggle and sacrifice of the workers to establish an eight-hour workday demand.
(g) Industrial Revolution means revolution relating to industry: it means abrupt and unprecedented growth of industries. Industrial Revolution took place in Europe and the USA during the 18th and 19th centuries.
(h) The events of May 1, 1886 is a reminder for the workers. It reminds them that they would be exploited until they become united, stand together and speak out for better working conditions, better pay and improved lives.
(i) When the policemen attacked the strikers, one striker was killed instantly, five or six others were seriously wounded and many of them were badly injured.
(j) From the events of May 1st, 1886, the workers have learnt that they have to stand up and speak out to gain better working conditions, better pay and better lives.
(k) The industrial revolution took place in Europe and the USA in the 18th and 19th centuries. Since then the workers had to work for fourteen or even more hours a day.
(l) Yes, I support, the idea that the events of May 1, 1886 will act as a reminder to the workers of their exploitation. Chiefly for two reasons the said acts will remain as a reminder. Firstly, the day is observed recurrently every year with various programmes. Secondly, such exploitations have not come to an end.
(m) May 1st is called International Workers Day because on May 1st in 1886, workers struggled and sacrificed their lives to gain the privileges workers enjoy today. Since then every year, May 1st is observed as the International Workers Day.
(n) As a result of their sacrifice, the workers enjoy some privileges such as a minimum wage, safety laws and eight-hour workday.
(o) If there were no ‘May Day’ in the history of the world, the working people of the world would need to work 10 to 16 hours a day in unsafe conditions like the workers before May 1st 1886. And they would be exploited like those workers.
(p) The policemen all on a sudden, attacked the workers with clubs and revolvers. One worker died on the spot, five or six others were seriously wounded and many others were badly injured.
(q) Yes, I support the attitude that is mentioned in the question. It is true that all the workers will be exploited if they are not aware of their rights—better working conditions, better pay and better lives. The main reason behind my support to the attitude is that all the workers should take the events Of May 1 as a reminder to protect their proper rights.
(r) One 1St May 1886, about 200 policemen attacked the striking workers on a rally at the city of Chicago and killed one worker on the spot and wounded and injured mans’ others. The workers wanted an eight-hour workday.
(s) The leaders of trade union addressed the rally. Some strikebreakers started leaving the meeting place.
(t) The working conditions in Europe and the United States were very bad. The workers had to work 10 to 16 hours a day in unsafe conditions. Death and injury were common at many work places. These working conditions in Europe and the United States compelled the workers to form a revolution.
(u) The main theme of the passage is struggle and sacrifice against exploitation and deprivation. Because prior to May 1st, 1886 workers had to work 10 to 16 hours a day in very unsafe conditions. They were often victims of death and injury. As a result, they protested against it unitedly. They went on a strike and assembled in a rally. Police tired on the crowd of workers, killed one on the spot and left many wounded and injured. But ultimately, the workers succeeded in getting their demands fulfilled..
(v) The consequence of May Day is that the workers had finally established an eight-hour workday together with other facilities rights and privileges.
(w) The lesson of May Day for the workers is that the workers will continue to be exploited until they stand up and speak out to gain better working conditions, better pa’ and better lives.
(x) The events of May Day took place at the city of Chicago in the USA.
(y) The workers had to work fourteen hours or more a day before the May 1st strike.
