VISIT TO A
PLACE OF HISTORICAL INTEREST
A visit to
a historical place is both interesting and instructive. It helps us to know the
past.
I paid a
visit to Bagerhat. It is famous for the Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali and the Shat
Gambuj Mosque.
Our school
was closed for autumn vacation. Biplop, one of my friends suggested that we
should go out for a travel for a few days. The idea was good and we decided to
visit Bagerhat.
We started
our journey in a bus. At 7.A.M. We started our journey from Pabna and reached
Jessore at 12.00 a.m. At Jessore bus stand we got into another bus. We reached
Bagerhat at 4.00 p.m.
Khan Jahan
Ali was a great saint. It is generally agreed that he came from Delhi to
Sunderbans region to preach Islam. The Mazar of Khan Ali stands on a raised
ground. The Shat Gambuj Mosque stands on the eastern side of Goradeghi. Though
it is called Shat Gombuj Mosque, it has actually seventy seven domes. It was
built in 1440 A.D. It was used as the prayer hall and court of Khan Jahan Ali.
The tomb is made of cut out stones.
There are
two tanks in Bagerha. One is called Goradeghi and the other is called
Dargadhigi. Dargadhigi is near the Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali. It has crocodiles
in it.We visited these places and offered fateha at the mazar of Khan Jahan
Ali. We spent five hours in visiting these two places of historical interest.
We saw in our eyes what we had read in books. The memory of this visit will
remain ever fresh in my mind.
