Transformation of Sentence

FROM AFFIRMATIVE TO NEGATIVE

Rule -1 : Affirmative Sentence-এ যদি only বা alone এর পরে ব্যক্তি থাকে তাহলে Negative Sentence-এ পরিবর্তন করতে হলে only বা alone- এর পরিবর্তে উত্তর বাক্যের শুরুতে None but বসে এবং আর কোন পরিবর্তন হয় না । যেমন -

Aff : Allah alone is Almighty.

Neg : None but Allah is Almighty.

উল্লেখ্য যে (i) বস্তুর ক্ষেত্রে only এর স্থলে nothing but এবং (ii) বয়সের অথবা সংখ্যার ক্ষেত্রে only- এর স্থলে not more than বসে।যেমন -

Aff : I have only a few books.

Neg : I have nothing but a few books.

Aff : Robin was only thirteen.

Neg : Robin was not more than thirteen,

Rule -2: Affirmative Sentence-এ যদি must/have to/has to/need to থাকে তাহলে negative করার সময়ে উত্তর বাক্যে must/have to/has to/need to-এর পরিবর্তে cannot but/cannot help বসে। উত্তর বাক্যে cannot but-এর পরে verb-এর present form এবং cannot help- এর পরে যে  verb বসে তার সাথে ing যোগ করতে হয়।যেমন -

Aff : I must help the poor.

Neg : I cannot but help the poor.

Aff: Neela must obey her teacher.

Neg: Neela cannot help obeying her teacher.

Affirmative Sentence-এ যদি had to/needed to থাকে তাহলে negative করার সময়ে উত্তর বাক্যে had to/needed to-এর পরিবর্তে could not but/could not help বসে। উত্তর বাক্যে could not but-এর পরে verb-এর present form এবং could not help- এর পরে যে  verb বসে তার সাথে ing যোগ করতে হয়।যেমন

Aff: He had to do it.

Neg: He could not but do it.

Rule-3: Every-যুক্ত Affirmative Sentence-গুলোর negative করতে হলে উত্তর বাক্যে Every-এর স্থলে There is no বসে + Every- এর পরের শব্দটি বসে + but বসে + প্রদত্ত বাক্যের বাকি অংশ বসে। যেমন -

Aff: Every mother loves her child.

Neg : There is no mother but loves her child.

তবে Every যুক্ত বাক্যে has থাকলে নিন্মের নিয়ম ব্যবহার করা ভালো

Every-যুক্ত Affirmative Sentence-গুলোর negative করতে হলে উত্তর বাক্যে Every-এর স্থলে There is no বসে + Every- এর পরের শব্দটি বসে + has এর পরিবর্তে without বসে + প্রদত্ত বাক্যের বাকি অংশ বসে। যেমন

Aff: Every cloud has a silver lining.

Neg: There is no cloud without a silver lining.

Rule-4: As soon as-যুক্ত Affirmative Sentence-গুলোর negative করতে হলে উত্তর বাক্যে As soon as-এর স্থলে No sooner had বসে + সে বাক্যের Subject বসে + সে বাক্যের principal verb-এর past participle বসে + সে বাক্যের বাকি অংশ বসে (যদি থাকে) + কমা এর স্থলে than বসে + দ্বিতীয় clause বসে। যেমন –

Aff: As soon as the rain stopped, we came back home.

Neg: No sooner had the rain stopped than we came back home.

Rule – 5 : Affirmative Sentence- এ যদি Superlative degree-র Adjective থাকে সেগুলোর negative নিন্মের Structure অনুযায়ী করতে হয়:

Structure : No other + Superlative Adjective- এর পরের অংশ + Verb + as + Superlative Adjective-এর Positive form + as + প্রদত্ত বাক্যের Subject. যেমন

Aff: Shila is the most beautiful girl in the class.

Neg : No other girl in the class is so/as beautiful as Shila.

Rule – 6: Than any other/Than all other-যুক্ত Comparative Degree-কে Negative করতে হলে Structure হবে নিন্মরূপ:

Structure: প্রথমে No other বসে + than any other/than all other-এর পরের অংশ + প্রদত্ত verb + so/as বসে + Comparative Adjective-এর Positive form + as বসে + প্রদত্ত sentence-এর Subject বসে। যেমন -

Aff: He is better than any other boy in the class.

Neg : No other boy in the class is so/as good as he.

Rule -7 : Always-যুক্ত Affirmative Sentence-কে negative করতে হলে উত্তর বাক্যে Always-এর স্থলে Never বসে এবং affirmative অর্থবোধক শব্দটির বিপরীত শব্দ বসে। যেমন—

Aff: He is always active.

Neg : He is never lazy.. :

Rule-8: Less ................... than-যুক্ত Sentence-কে Negative করতে হলে Less-এর স্থলে not as বসে এবং

than- এর স্থলে as বসে। যেমন -

Aff: They are less poor than you said.

Neg: They are not so/as poor as you said.

Rule- 9: বাক্যের মধ্যে Auxiliary verb (যেমন: am, is, are, was, were, shall, will, can, could, should, have,  has, had ইত্যাদি) থাকলে, Auxiliary verb -এর পর not বসবে এবং পরবর্তী Adjective/ Adverb টির Antonym বা বিপরীত শব্দ বসাতে হবে । যেমন -

i. Aff : I shall remember you.

   Neg: I shall not forget you.

Rule -10:  বাক্যের মধ্যে Auxiliary verb না থাকলে subject এর পর tense অনুযায়ী do not/does not/ did not বসবে এবং পরবর্তী Adjective /Adverb-টি বিপরীত হবে। যেমন -

i.. Aff: He walks fast.

    Neg: He does not walk slowly.

ii. Aff : I saw an honest man.

   Neg: I did not see a dishonest man.

Rule-11: সাধারণত Affirmative Sentence-কে Negative Sentence-এ পরিণত করতে হলে উত্তর বাক্যে প্রদত্ত

বাক্যের Affirmative- বোধক শব্দটির Negative-বোধকশব্দ বা বিপরীত শব্দ ব্যবহার করতে হয় এবং  সেই শব্দটির পূর্বে Negative Particle 'not' বসাতে হয় I যেমন -

Aff : Ripon is a good student.

Neg : Ripon is not a bad student.

Rule-12: Both ....... and থাকলে Not only ... but also বসে । যেমন

Aff: He ate both a mango and an orange.

Neg : He ate not only a mango but also an orange.

Rule-13: Too......... to_ So........ that.

নিয়ম : প্রদত্ত Sentence এর Sub+Verb+too এর পরিবর্তে ঐ জায়গায় So বসে+too এর পরের Adjective/ Adverb বসে+that বসে । প্রথম Subject আবার বসে+tense অনুসারে can not/could not বসে+প্রদত্ত to-এর

পরে অংশ বসে।

Aff : He is too short to touch the roof.

Neg : He is so short that he can not touch the roof,

ব্যতিক্রম :Affirmative : too ........ for + NP + to + verb

যেমন :

Aff : The box is too heavy for her to lift.

Neg: The box is so heavy that she can't lift it.

Rule-14 : Many ____Not a few. ;

নিয়ম : Many যুক্ত Affirmative sentence-কে Negative করার সময় many-এর পরিবর্তে Not a few বসে।

Aff : There are many pens on the table.

Neg: There are not a few pens on the table.

Rule-15: A few__ Not many.

নিয়ম : A few যুক্ত Affirmative sentence-কে Negative করার সময় A few-এর পরিবর্তে Not many বসে।

Aff : He has a few friends.

Neg: He has not many friends.

Rule-16: A little Not much.

নিয়ম : A little যুক্ত Affirmative sentence-কে Negative করার সময় A little-এর পরিবর্তে Not much বসে ।।

Aff : He has a little rice.

Neg: He has not much rice.

Rule-17 : Much ___Not a little.

নিয়ম : Much যুক্ত Affirmative sentence-কে Negative করার সময় Much -এর পরিবর্তে Not a little বসে

Aff: I have much money.

Neg: I have not a little money.

Rule-18: Affirmative sentence a sometimes থাকলে তাকে Negative করার সময় sometimes- এর পরিবর্তে always এবং তার পূর্বে not বসাতে হয়।

Aff : He is sometimes happy.

Neg: He is not always happy.

Rule-19: Affirmative to Negative Sentence.

(Universal truth) চিরন্তন সত্য Sentence-কে Negative-এ পরিবর্তন করতে হলে Negative Interrogative করতে হয়। যেমন -

Aff: Ice floats on water.

Neg : Doesn't ice float on water?

Rule-20:

Affirmative-এ for the last time হলে Negative- এ never ....... again হয়।

Affirmative-এ for ever হলে Negative এ never ........ again হয়।

 Affirmative-এ for good হলে Negative এ Never ....... again হয়।

যেমন -

Aff: He came here for the last time.

Neg: He never came here again. Or : Never again did he come here.

Aff: I requested him for the last time.

Neg : I never requested him again.

Aff: I request him for the last time.

Neg : I shall never request him again.

Aff: We saw the old man for the last time.

Neg: We have never seen the old man again.

Aff: The man left the village for ever.

Neg: The man will never return to the village again.

Aff: He has given up smoking for good.

Neg : He will never smoke again.

Rule -21: নিয়ম ও অর্থ ঠিক রেখে Affirmative Sentence কে Negative করতে হলে Double Negative করে করা যেতে পারে। যেমন :

I shall go to college today. এ বাক্যটি অর্থ ঠিক রেখে Negative করতে হলে বলতে হবে,

It is not that I shall not go to college today. অর্থাৎ আমি যে কলেজে যাবনা তা নয়, তার মানে, আমি কলেজে যাব।

মনে রেখো : Negative + Negative = Affirmative.

Aff : He will teach you English.

Neg: It is not that he will not teach you English.
