A VILLAGE MARKET
A village market is a place where daily
necessary things are bought and sold. It is known as hat. It is a useful buying
and selling centre for the villagers. It usually sits by the side of a river, a
canal, a bus stand or under a banyan tree.
There are two kinds of village market- the
daily market and the weekly market. Daily market is called bazaar. It sits
every morning. The weekly market is called hat. It sits once or twice in a
week. It sits in the afternoon and breaks up by the evening. People from
distant places come to the market to sell or to buy goods.
A village market has three parts- open space
temporary sheds and permanent sheds. In the open space the sellers sit in rows.
Here milk, fruit, betels, vegetables, fish etc are sold. Grocers, cloth dealers
tailors, potters have permanent shops. There are fish corner, vegetables corner
and rice corner. The sellers in each corner sit in lines. Most of the shops are
temporary. Only the stationary shops are permanent. The fish market is the most
noisy place. There is also a particular place where cows and goats are sold.
Now –a- days tea stalls are seen in the village market. People from distant
places come to a village market. They carry their goods in their heads. At
present rickshaws and vans also carry goods. Many boats are seen on the banks
of the river beside a village market. The businessmen is known as ‘Beparis’ buy
goods like jute, vegetables, rice, pulse and carry them to the famous business
centres.A village market is part and parcel
of village life. It serves as the recreational centre also. Village life will come to a
stand still without a village market.
